November 7, 2008, First Friday

Meeting called to order at 9:12 PM at the Scheiner’s, President Cathy Green presiding.

The Chair thanks everybody; he is in Connecticut. GoH really enjoyed his gifts. “best gift in 40 years”. Everything went well. Final attendance: 251 preregistered, 16 at the con, 13 daily, for 315 total. We also got 59 preregistrations for Capclave 2009.

We probably made about $1000.

There will be an election for the two open slots on the Awards Committee following the regular meeting. The Trustees nominees are Charles Abel, Colleen Cahill, Paul Haggerty, and Sandra Marshall. Nominations from the floor are welcome.

The Committee to Actually Discuss Science Fiction:

They’ll be discussing the double issue of F&SF. At Third Friday, they will discuss the double issue of Asimov’s.

The Webmaster wants directions, especially driving directions. There is some (not much) on-street parking. There was a brief demonstration thanking Cathy. (Chanting, but no signs).

Meeting called to order at 10:15 PM, Trustee Lee Strong presiding, for the election of two new members of the Awards Committee for the WSFA Small Press Award.

The Trustees’ Slate was Charles Able, Colleen Cahill, Paul Haggerty, and Sandra Mitchell. There were no nominations from the floor.

The new members of the Committee are Colleen Cahill and Paul Haggerty. Congratulations to our new slushpile readersCommittee Members.

Chris Newman proposed written reports for Capclave to start ASAP and presented a detailed proposal. After discussion, the motion was tabled and passed to a Special Finances Committee for further discussion.

The members of the new Finance committee are: Christina Abel, Bob Macintosh, Chris Newman, Lee Strong. Adrienne Erdman, VP, presiding.

  • From the Host: White bunny bites. Don’t give dog chocolate. There is lost & found under the coat rack. The money on the floor is supposed to be there.

  • Eva Whitley reminds us of the BSFS business meeting tomorrow.
  • Adrienne Ertman, in a moment of madness, bought a 35mm film camera; now she needs film. If anybody has extra 35mm film, she’ll take it off your hands.

    Alexis Gilliland had a review of Lord of the Rings (the Bakshi version, not the Time Traveler’s Special) It was one of the few reviews that wasn’t totally poisonous — the worst he said about it was “falls short here and there of what I had envisioned”.
